Ethanol boost: UP government aims to boost maize production

The state government unveiled an ambitious plan to double maize production by 2027, according to the news report by Times of India.

A spokesperson explained that the objective is to significantly increase maize output over the next few years. To achieve this, the government plans to expand the area dedicated to maize cultivation and enhance yield per hectare.

To support this initiative, the state has introduced the “Quick Maize Development Scheme,” which has been allocated Rs 27.68 crore for the 2023-2024 financial year. This scheme is designed to advance maize farming techniques and boost production efficiency across the state.

Currently, maize production in the state is at 21.16 lakh metric tonnes.

Increased maize production will also contribute to higher ethanol output. India aims for 20% ethanol blending by 2025, and with the rise in maize production, the state will play a crucial role in meeting the government’s blending targets.
