Ethanol boost: MEDAS secures major distillery project from NSL Sugars

MEDAS EnggDesign Pvt. Ltd. (MEDAS), a prominent EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) firm specializing in distillery, brewery, and food processing solutions, has been awarded a significant contract by NSL Sugars Ltd., one of India’s top ten sugar producers.

The project involves NSL Sugars’ Jai Mahesh Unit, located in Mazalgaon, District Beed, Maharashtra. Under this contract, MEDAS will provide technology, engineering expertise, and equipment for a modern distillery plant with a production capacity of 500,000 liters per day. The facility is designed to operate on both sugarcane syrup and grains as feedstocks.

Aligned with the Government of India’s National Biofuel Policy, the plant will produce fuel-grade ethanol using MEDAS’s advanced process design. The distillery will feature a low-pressure distillation system that enhances power generation and an energy-efficient evaporation unit that recycles vapors from the sugar and drying processes. This integrated approach is aimed at maximizing energy efficiency and optimizing output.

“Since our inception in 2018, MEDAS has successfully designed, engineered, and commissioned several distillery projects across India using a variety of feedstocks including grains, sugarcane juice, and molasses,” said Mr. Abhay Chaudhari, Managing Director of MEDAS EnggDesign Pvt. Ltd. “Our recent accomplishments include a 423,000 LPD sugarcane juice/grain-based plant in Karnataka and a 125,000 LPD grain-based ethanol facility in North India. We’re honored that NSL Sugars has placed their trust in our capabilities for this strategic project.”

Work on the NSL Sugars project is already in motion, with considerable progress made in a relatively short span.
