CycleØ awarded gas shipper licence in Spain by Ministry of Industry and Tourism

CycleØ, the European developer, owner and operator of biogas plants today confirmed its application for a gas shipper licence in Spain has been approved.  This new status as a gas shipper further strengthens the company’s investment in Spain, allowing it to trade and directly supply gas on the Spanish market. This confirmation builds on three operational biomethane plants and the first private gas grid injection point on the Spanish network, and follows a recent commitment to build, own and operate up to 30 biogas plants in Spain.

The successful application underpins a significant commitment to biogas and biomethane production in Spain and provides further evidence of the company’s ambition to establish itself as a long-term player in Spain.

Now able to act as a shipper, CycleØ can trade and supply biomethane generated at its 3 operating plants in Spain, located in Lleida and Vilanant. Once the 18 new plants currently under construction or in advanced permitting are commissioned, gas from those plants may also be traded or supplied by the company to help decarbonise the Spanish gas grid.

This latest news follows the announcement of plans for the development of 30 biogas plant in Spain, with investments totalling €200m. The plants will produce a combined output of circa 800GWh per annum which is enough to meet the gas needs for around 123,000 Spanish households.

Awarded under the name CycleØ Comercializadora S.L, a subsidiary of CycleØ Group Limited, the licence is a wholesale (comercializadora mayorista) licence.

Speaking about the approval, Jordi Berengué, MD of Spanish operations said “This licence approval gives us the ability to further solidify our position as a leading Spanish and European player in renewable natural gas. As a gas shipper, our long-term strategic plans are further supported as we help to develop the renewable natural gas market in Spain”.
