Coimbatore: A fuel station located near Chinthamani Mahal in Ondipudur is under investigation by a major petroleum company following complaints from numerous drivers about the quality of their petrol, reports The Times of India.
The trouble began on Wednesday morning as people fueled up their vehicles at the station. Soon after, many of these drivers returned, reporting issues with what they suspected was impure petrol.
Sources indicate that several vehicles that had recently filled up at the station broke down while on the road. Some vehicle owners sought help from a local two-wheeler repair shop and discovered that the ethanol content in the petrol was significantly higher than the allowed limit of 20%.
Frustrated customers even brought samples of the petrol back in bottles to lodge formal complaints against the petroleum firm that supplies the station. There are claims that the company has already offered some compensation to affected individuals.
Following the surge of complaints, the fuel station has been temporarily closed. Officials from the petroleum firm have launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
“Because an investigation is currently underway, we will only be able to provide comments about this incident after the investigation report is completed by Thursday,” said a company official.
