CEID Consultants & Engineering Pvt Ltd, specializing in harnessing and developing renewable energy sources, aims to more than double its biogas production in the coming fiscal year.
In an interview with BusinessLine, Rajaram Prajapati, CTO and Director of CEID Consultants & Engineering Pvt Ltd, noted that the company’s current 30-plus biogas plants collectively produce over 100 tonnes of Compressed Bio Gas (CBG) daily. He highlighted that each plant varies in production capacity, with plans to increase overall production to over 350 tonnes per day by the next financial year.
The company is expanding its operations by collaborating with IOCL, BPCL, and HPCL to establish additional biogas plants. It is also engaged in projects across Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu in partnership with private entities.
CEID’s biogas plants utilize diverse raw materials including cow dung, poultry litter, fruit and vegetable waste, cooked food waste, sugar mill waste, chicory waste, and rice/wheat straw, as well as municipal solid waste.
Addressing concerns about stubble burning in parts of the country, Prajapati highlighted logistical challenges in collecting crop straws due to short time gaps between harvesting and replanting. He noted that subsidies from the Central government for machinery used in large-scale harvesting, collection, and transportation of paddy straws could help mitigate this issue.
Prajapati emphasized the potential of biogas in addressing stubble burning, citing the company’s Gorakhpur plant which currently produces 20 tonnes of biogas daily from 200 tonnes of paddy straw.
