BPCL to invest Rs 100 crore for two biogas plants in Chhattisgarh

On Wednesday, an MoU was signed between Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd and the Raipur and Bhilai Municipal corporations, to set up two urban solid waste-based compressed biogas plants.

The signing ceremony witnessed the presence of Chief Executive Officer of Chhattisgarh Bio Fuel Development Authority Sumit Sarkar, Bharat Petroleum Corp Chief General Manager Anurag Saravangi, and Raipur and Bhilai Municipal Corporation Commissioners Avinash Mishra and Devesh Kumar Dhruv. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao were also in attendance.

Expressing his thoughts on the occasion, CM emphasized the significance of compressed biogas in fostering clean cities and clean energy initiatives.

The plants are projected to utilize about 200 to 250 tonnes of urban solid waste daily for biofuel production, with an estimated annual generation of 60,000 man-days of employment. Additionally, the plants will produce organic fertilizer as a co-product to promote organic farming. Bharat Petroleum Corp is expected to invest around Rs 100 crore in the projects.
