Biogas push: EAG Bioenergy acquires North Lincolnshire biomethane plant

EAG Bioenergy has acquired Rockscape Energy, an anaerobic digestion (AD) biomethane plant in North Lincolnshire that produces more than 40GWh of energy each year, reports Bioenergy Insight.

The purchase is part of EAG’s strategy to build one of the leading independent biogas and biomethane platforms in the UK and Ireland. Backed by Vesper Infrastructure Partners and OrbeNovo Capital, the company said the deal strengthens its footprint in England and provides a base for future expansion at the site.

The Rockscape plant, which has been in operation since 2014, processes about 65,000 tonnes of agricultural and organic waste annually. It generates renewable gas and electricity for the grid, while contributing to local decarbonisation efforts and energy security.

EAG plans to invest in upgrades to increase biomethane production for direct injection into the national gas grid. The move adds to its existing portfolio of biogas and biofertiliser operations, which it is growing through both new developments and acquisitions.

“We’re very pleased to bring this site and its skilled operating team into EAG,” said Chris Kerr, founder and chief executive of EAG Bioenergy. “It has a strong track record, and we’re excited to invest in its growth. This deal is another step in building EAG into a major bioenergy platform and in supporting decarbonisation across the UK and Ireland.”

Ross Hewson, chief executive of Rockscape Energy, said: “We’re proud of what we’ve achieved at Rockscape over the past 12 years. EAG Bioenergy is the right partner to take the company forward, and we’re confident the site will continue to thrive under their ownership. On behalf of our team, I’d like to thank everyone involved for their commitment in building a leading operation.”

EAG added that it is actively exploring further acquisitions and partnerships across the bioenergy sector.
