Dutch waste and recycling firm Attero has acquired Greenferm’s manure processing facility located at the De Ecofactorij industrial estate in Apeldoorn, marking its first entry into the manure sector, reported Energy Global.
The plant, which processes around 350,000 tonnes of animal manure annually, has been recognized for its compliance with the Fertiliser Act and for producing export-quality soil enhancers. Greenferm has developed a reliable method for processing cattle, calf, and pig manure, and the acquisition enables Attero to broaden its scope beyond its current organic waste operations.
Attero already processes nearly half of the Netherlands’ vegetable, fruit, and garden waste, converting it into compost, green gas, and bio-LNG. The new addition strengthens its position in the circular economy and renewable energy sectors.
“With the acquisition of Greenferm, we are taking an important new step in our mission and growth strategy,” said Paul Ganzeboom, CEO of Attero. “We’re applying our expertise in fermentation and organic waste processing to manure. This move enhances our energy portfolio through the anticipated green gas production and supports our commitment to sustainability and climate action.”
Greenferm directors Willem Berkhof and Frank Franzen welcomed the acquisition, noting that Attero’s involvement would ensure the plant’s continued development and provide security for manure suppliers. “We believe Attero is the right partner to carry Greenferm forward and support sustainable manure management,” they said. Berkhof and Comgoed will remain involved in supplying manure and handling the processed thick fraction.
With this acquisition, Attero increases its capacity to transform organic waste into soil improvers and renewable energy, further aligning with its environmental and energy transition goals.
