Andhra Sugars commissions 1.5 MW captive solar power plant at Tanuku

Mumbai: Andhra Sugars Ltd has commissioned a 1.5 MW captive solar power plant at its manufacturing facility in Tanuku, Andhra Pradesh, as part of its efforts to strengthen renewable energy use and reduce dependence on conventional power sources.

The company announced the commissioning in a regulatory filing with the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on Thursday under the Securities and Exchange Board of India’s Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements (LODR) Regulations.

The solar power plant, located within the company’s manufacturing complex in Tanuku, West Godavari district, will cater to a portion of the facility’s electricity requirement. The move is expected to help the company lower energy costs while improving the sustainability of its operations.

The investment comes at a time when sugar and agro-based industries are increasingly expanding captive renewable energy capacity to reduce exposure to rising grid power costs and improve operational efficiency.

Andhra Sugars, which has diversified operations across sugar, chemicals and allied businesses, has been focusing on strengthening its manufacturing infrastructure while adopting cleaner energy sources.

The company said the solar power plant was commissioned on the date of the disclosure. The filing was signed by P.V.S. Viswanadha Kumar, Vice President (Finance) and Additional Secretary, and submitted to the National Stock Exchange.

Andhra Sugars is headquartered at Venkatarayapuram in Tanuku, Andhra Pradesh, and operates manufacturing facilities across the state.
