Andhra Pradesh: TTD partners with IOCL to set up biogas plant at Tirumala

Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) have partnered to set up a biogas plant at Tirumala, designed to process 40 tonnes of waste per day (TPD). The initiative aims to promote sustainable energy generation and improve waste management efficiency.

The foundation stone for the plant was laid by TTD’s Additional Executive Officer, Ch. Venkaiah Chowdary, with IOCL’s Executive Director and State Head, B. Anil Kumar, in attendance on Wednesday.

The primary goal of the plant is to produce biogas for use in kitchen burners and boilers for cooking, as well as for generating steam at TTD’s Annadanam Complex. This biogas will supplement LPG, which is the main cooking fuel at TTD.

The biogas plant will process a mix of waste generated at Tirumala, including banana leaves, food scraps, grass, green waste, dry leaves, vegetables, fruits, cow dung, and flowers.

IOCL Chairman, V. Satish Kumar, who was instrumental in initiating the project, expressed confidence that the collaboration between IOCL and TTD would be further strengthened through this venture.

Additionally, IOCL held a ‘Bhumi Puja’ for its new Divisional Office building on Karakambadi Road downhill, with the ceremony conducted by Tirupati Municipal Corporation Commissioner, N. Mourya.
