Anaergia S.r.l. and Capwatt sign contract for the first of nine new biogas plants

Anaergia has signed a deal with Capwatt Biomethane Unipessoal to design and build a new biomethane plant named Metanext in central Italy. The project, valued at about C$7.3 million (approximately €4.9 million), is expected to be up and running by June 2026, reports Bioenergy Insight.

This contract follows a previous agreement announced on April 21, 2025, in which both companies committed to completing nine biomethane projects within 30 months. These projects are projected to generate more than C$60 million (€40.3 million) in revenue for Anaergia.

Anaergia will be responsible for the design and construction of all nine facilities, using advanced technology including its own anaerobic digesters. The aim is to boost renewable biomethane production and strengthen green energy efforts across Europe.

Metanext is the first of the nine planned plants.

“This facility will be capable of producing 7.6 million cubic metres of high-quality biomethane every year,” said Sérgio Rocha, CEO of Capwatt. “It represents a major step toward our goal of sustainable energy production and supports Europe’s push for cleaner energy.”

Assaf Onn, CEO of Anaergia, said, “This contract marks a key moment in our partnership with Capwatt, moving from plans to real action. With our technology and experience, we’re ready to deliver multiple facilities on schedule and to the high standards expected by Capwatt.”
