Jakarta: Indonesia is considering increasing the palm oil content in its biodiesel to 50% by 2026. This potential move, along with plans for a 3% palm oil blend in jet fuel next year, was revealed by energy ministry official Eniya Listiani Dewi in a parliamentary address, reports Tempo.Co.
As the world’s leading palm oil producer, Indonesia has been progressively increasing the use of palm oil in its biodiesel. This year, the mandatory blend was raised to 40% (B40) from 35%, aiming to reduce the country’s reliance on imported diesel fuel.
Dewi also announced that the state plantation fund will allocate Rp35.47 trillion (US$2.2 billion) to subsidise the mandatory biodiesel program. Approximately half of the 15.62 million kiloliters of biodiesel expected to be sold this year will receive subsidies, she added.
