Assam announces incentive for grain-based ethanol production

To increase farmers’ income and promote the use of cleaner fuel alternatives, the Assam cabinet has approved a production-linked incentive for the three grain-based ethanol.

The incentive is set at Rs 2 per litre and will remain in effect for three years, as per the decision made during the cabinet meeting on Saturday.

India has already launched 20 percent ethanol-blended fuel, although it is being rolled out gradually, with widespread availability expected soon.

The government aims to achieve 20 percent ethanol-blended petrol by 2025-26 and 30 percent by 2029-30. The target for E20 fuel has been moved up from 2030 to 2025.

The introduction of E20 blending in petrol by the Centre is intended to reduce the country’s oil import costs, enhance energy security, cut carbon emissions, and improve air quality.
