Requested Petroleum Minister to allow sugar mills to set up ethanol pumps: Nitin Gadkari

In a recent address, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari highlighted the importance of transitioning Pune, Maharashtra’s second-largest city, to ethanol-powered vehicles, such as scooters and autorickshaws, as a crucial measure to combat pollution. He expressed, “I want all scooters, autorickshaws, and other vehicles in Pune to run on ethanol instead of petrol and diesel.” He also mentioned that he has urged the Petroleum Minister to allow sugar mills to set up ethanol pumps, which would benefit farmers, reduce crude oil imports, and help make the district pollution-free.

Gadkari, along with Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, attended the inauguration of several development projects in Pune on September 21. He announced that a major development initiative is expected to begin in Pune district by December, aimed at improving infrastructure and sustainability in the area.

As Pune prepares for these significant changes, the emphasis on ethanol not only tackles environmental issues but also positions the city as a pioneer in sustainable urban mobility.
