Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) plans to invest Rs 1 trillion in Andhra Pradesh to set up compressed biogas (CBG) projects, RIL Executive Director Anant Ambani said on Friday, Business Standard reported.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Rayalaseema Horticulture Hub and Indian School of Agriculture in Madanapalle, Ambani stated that the farmers ensure the country’s food security and now they will also play a key role in strengthening India’s energy security and self-reliance.
“Reliance Industries is grateful to the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the opportunity to invest Rs 1 trillion in the state to set up compressed biogas plants,” Ambani said.
He said the projects are expected to create more than 3 lakh jobs and generate Rs 60,000 crore in revenue for the State over the next few decades.
Ambani also highlighted Andhra Pradesh’s investment pipeline, attributing the momentum to the State government’s “Speed of Doing Business” approach.
“Since June 2024, the state has approved 388 mega projects, with investment commitments exceeding Rs 14 trillion and the potential to create nearly 11 lakh jobs, about a third of it headed to Rayalaseema,” he said.
He said RIL was proud to be part of the State’s growth story through clean-energy projects.
“From green energy to advanced manufacturing, this momentum gives real substance to your Swarna Andhra 2047 vision, aligned with Viksit Bharat,” Ambani said.
The announcement comes shortly after Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched GOBARdhan, a central sector scheme aimed at accelerating the development of the CBG sector.
The scheme was approved by the Union Cabinet last month with an outlay of Rs 23,731 crore and provides a 10-year framework from 2026-27 to 2035-36 for CBG development in India.
GOBARdhan aims to increase domestic CBG production nearly tenfold to around 5 million standard cubic metres per day (mscmd). The long-term framework is intended to provide greater certainty to investors and lenders and attract large-scale investment into the CBG sector.
