Neste will supply sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) to Hotelplan Group, a globally active Swiss travel group in the leisure and business travel sector, in order to facilitate the expansion of SAF usage throughout the entire group. Hotelplan Group will purchase unblended, or “neat,” sustainable aviation fuel from Neste for a total value of 300,000 Swiss Francs (CHF) through Neste Impact. This solution allows companies to effectively reduce the carbon footprint associated with air travel activities.
This purchase of Neste’s SAF represents a significant step forward in Hotelplan Group’s comprehensive sustainability strategy, which includes promoting SAF usage and implementing CO2 removal technologies like direct air capture. The main source of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2e) for Hotelplan Group comes from flights taken by its customers, accounting for 87% of such emissions. Procuring SAF from Neste will enable Hotelplan Group to expand the availability of SAF to its customers when booking trips involving flights, thereby empowering them to choose more sustainable travel options. Additionally, Hotelplan Group utilizes SAF for some of its own business trips.
Laura Meyer, CEO of Hotelplan Group, emphasized their proactive approach to developing a sustainability strategy: “We do not yet have all the answers to the challenges related to sustainable tourism development. However, we are actively advancing our sustainability strategy by focusing on innovative solutions and actively seeking ways to take responsibility. SAF is currently produced in limited quantities and is more costly to produce than traditional jet fuel. By procuring SAF for the entire Hotelplan Group, we can secure larger volumes and make it accessible to our customers. This will also support the ongoing development and scaling of this innovative technology.”
