Bangkok: Thailand has marked a major milestone in clean fuel development as Bangchak Corporation Public Company Limited began commercial production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), strengthening its position in the global shift towards low-carbon and bioenergy solutions.
The production is taking place at a dedicated unit at the Bangchak Phra Khanong Refinery, making it the country’s first fully operational standalone facility using HEFA-SPK technology. The fuel is produced from renewable sources such as used cooking oil, highlighting the growing role of bioenergy in the aviation sector, Bangchak reported.
Group Chief Executive Officer Chaiwat Kovavisarach said the plant has been developed as a world-class facility to support next-generation aviation fuels and is a key step in the company’s journey towards net zero emissions.
In addition to the production unit, the group has built an integrated system for collecting and processing used cooking oil, converting it into SAF and renewable diesel. This approach supports energy security while promoting sustainable fuel production.
The company is set to export its first batch of SAF on May 19, signalling Thailand’s readiness to join the global supply chain for cleaner aviation fuels through strong infrastructure and quality standards.
The development reflects increasing global momentum towards bioenergy-based fuels, as countries seek to reduce emissions and transition to more sustainable energy systems.
With this launch, Bangchak Group is positioning itself as a leader in future energy, reinforcing its commitment to innovation and sustainability in the evolving global fuel market.
