Emphasising India’s rapid economic transformation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on Swedish companies to deepen their presence in India, particularly in sectors such as manufacturing, clean energy, green hydrogen and bioenergy.
Addressing the European Round Table for Industry during his visit to Sweden, Modi said India’s reform-driven growth is moving at full pace, creating wide opportunities for global companies to invest and collaborate, The Economic Times reported.
He highlighted potential across key sectors including telecom and digital infrastructure, electronics, artificial intelligence, deep-tech manufacturing, mobility, healthcare and life sciences. He noted that India can emerge as a global hub for research and development with support from international partners.
The meeting, hosted by the Volvo Group, was attended by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and leading industry representatives.
Modi said India and Sweden share common values of innovation and sustainability, and combining Sweden’s expertise with India’s scale and talent can drive solutions for the future, including in emerging areas like bioenergy and clean fuel technologies.
He also referred to the recently concluded India-EU Free Trade Agreement, describing it as a major step that will boost cooperation in trade, technology, manufacturing and services.
Highlighting India’s strong economic fundamentals, Modi said the country offers a favourable environment for investment, supported by reforms, expanding infrastructure, digital growth and a vibrant manufacturing ecosystem.
Reiterating the vision of “Design for India, Make in India and Export from India,” he invited European companies to partner in India’s growth story and participate in key initiatives such as the National Green Hydrogen Mission and the National Critical Mineral Mission.
Discussions during the visit focused on strengthening cooperation in supply chains, green transition, sustainable mobility and digital technologies, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to long-term collaboration and innovation-driven development.
