European Energy signs agreement with Yorta Yorta Nation for renewable projects in Australia

European Energy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Yorta Yorta Nation Aboriginal Corporation to work together on renewable energy projects across Yorta Yorta Country in northern Victoria, renews.BIZ reported.

The agreement was signed during the Danish State Visit to Australia and was witnessed by King Frederik X, Queen Mary, and Australian Energy Minister Chris Bowen, the company said.

The partnership sets out a framework for cooperation on projects being developed on land traditionally owned by the Yorta Yorta people. It will focus on protecting cultural heritage and the environment, while also creating job opportunities, supporting local procurement and ensuring fair sharing of benefits.

The agreement also highlights the need for free, prior and informed consent, along with the protection of cultural and intellectual property during project development.

European Energy is currently working on several renewable projects in the region, including the Lancaster Solar Park near Kyabram.

Company officials said the agreement aims to ensure close coordination with local communities as projects move forward, with a focus on long-term engagement and respect for traditional land ownership.

Leaders from the Yorta Yorta Nation said the partnership recognises their role as Traditional Owners and sets clear guidelines to protect culture while allowing the community to benefit from renewable energy development.

The MoU is expected to guide ongoing collaboration as new projects are developed and operated in the region, while European Energy continues to expand its renewable energy portfolio in Australia.
