Vietjet excels as Asia’s  Sustainable Aviation Fuel leader

Mumbai: Vietjet is celebrating two major milestones this month, reinforcing its role as a leading airline in Asia and a trusted carrier for Indian travellers, reports Hospibuz.com.

The airline has become the first in Vietnam to use domestically blended Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and has also been named one of Asia’s “Best Workplaces” for the fifth consecutive year at the HR Asia Awards 2025.

Under a new partnership, Petrolimex Aviation has supplied Vietjet with 1,200 cubic meters of SAF blended at Vietnam’s Nha Be Oil Depot. The fuel meets strict international ISCC EU standards and builds on Vietjet’s earlier SAF-powered flights in October 2024. The airline said the initiative reflects its commitment to clean energy, carbon reduction, and Vietnam’s National Green Growth Strategy, while also supporting the global net-zero target for 2050.

Vietjet Standing Vice President To Viet Thang said the agreement highlights the airline’s push for sustainable development. He noted that Vietjet’s expanding fleet will increasingly use SAF as part of its efforts to cut emissions, protect the environment, and support Vietnam’s green transition.

Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Authority Director General Uong Viet Dung said the domestic production of blended SAF marks a strategic step toward building a local supply chain that meets international standards. He added that it will also encourage collaboration between airlines, fuel suppliers, regulators, and financial institutions to expand SAF use nationwide.

In 2024, Vietjet operated the first two flights in Vietnam powered by SAF, which is produced from renewable sources such as used cooking oil, agricultural by-products, wood biomass, and urban waste. The fuel can reduce carbon emissions by up to 80% over its lifecycle compared with conventional jet fuel.

Alongside its sustainability initiatives, Vietjet continues to be recognised for its workplace culture. More than 9,000 employees representing over 60 nationalities work across its operations in Vietnam, India, and other markets. The airline invests in healthcare, welfare, career development, and training through its Vietjet Aviation Academy, while modern facilities support collaboration and well-being.

With 10 direct routes between India and Vietnam, Vietjet has expanded rapidly in the Indian market. From Vietnam’s major cities, passengers can also connect to destinations across the Asia-Pacific region through the airline’s growing network.

These achievements, Vietjet said, demonstrate its dual focus on leading the shift toward green aviation and creating opportunities for people across the region.
