US may set new record for ethanol exports in 2025

The United States is expected to reach a new milestone in ethanol exports this year, according to data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). This would mark the second straight year of growth, driven by increasing global demand, especially from Europe, reported Ruralradio.com.

EIA figures show that between January and July 2025, U.S. fuel ethanol exports averaged 138,000 barrels per day, the highest level for that period since records began in 2010, and 9% higher than the previous annual record set in 2024.

The Netherlands accounted for much of the year-over-year growth, reflecting Europe’s rising appetite for ethanol. India, the United Kingdom, and Canada — all of which have ethanol blending mandates, also continued to import substantial quantities.

According to the EIA, this surge in exports has pushed U.S. fuel ethanol production beyond pre-pandemic levels last seen in 2018, even as domestic demand remains largely unchanged.
