US ethanol production edges lower as exports rise sharply

Fuel ethanol production in the United States recorded a slight decline in the week ending February 27, even as stock levels increased and exports rose sharply, according to data released on March 4 by the U.S. Energy Information Administration and reported by Ethanol Producer Magazine.

Average production during the week stood at 1.095 million barrels per day, down by 18,000 barrels per day from the previous week’s figure of 1.113 million barrels per day. However, production was slightly higher compared to the same week last year, showing an increase of 2,000 barrels per day.

Ethanol inventories rose to 26.337 million barrels for the week ending February 27. This was an increase of 691,000 barrels from the previous week’s level of 25.646 million barrels. Despite the weekly gain, stocks were 952,000 barrels lower than they were during the same period a year earlier.

Exports registered strong growth, averaging 217,000 barrels per day. This was 76,000 barrels per day higher than the previous week’s level of 141,000 barrels per day. Compared with the same week last year, exports increased by 94,000 barrels per day.

No ethanol imports were reported during the week ending February 27.
