U.S. exports of biodiesel and biodiesel blends of B30 or greater dropped significantly in February, falling to 7,849.6 metric tons, according to data released by the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service on April 3. Imports, meanwhile, were reported at 21,964.9 metric tons for the month, reported Biodiesel Magazine.
The February export total marked a steep decline from the 27,421.8 metric tons exported in January and the 30,040.8 metric tons exported in February 2024.
Roughly six countries received U.S. biodiesel exports during the month. Canada led the list with 4,592.9 metric tons, followed by Peru with 3,065.3 metric tons and Germany with 143.4 metric tons.
The value of U.S. biodiesel exports also saw a decline, dropping to $7.85 million in February. This compares to $45.07 million in January and $42.51 million during the same month last year.
For the first two months of 2025, U.S. biodiesel exports totaled 35,271.4 metric tons, valued at $52.92 million. That’s down from 47,258 metric tons and $66.96 million during the same period in 2024.
On the import side, the U.S. brought in 21,964.9 metric tons of biodiesel and blends of B30 or greater in February. This was an increase from 9,922.4 metric tons in January, but significantly lower than the 180,488 metric tons imported in February 2024.
Canada was the top source of U.S. biodiesel imports with 21,803.8 metric tons. France followed with 78.4 metric tons, and Belgium-Luxembourg contributed 76.5 metric tons.
The value of biodiesel imports stood at $17.49 million in February, up from $10.44 million in January, but well below the $245.29 million reported in February 2024.
For the first two months of this year, biodiesel imports reached 31,887.4 metric tons at a value of $27.93 million. This compares to 348,201.7 metric tons and $489.19 million during the same period last year.
