The Indian government has recognised Deendayal Port (Gujarat), V.O. Chidambaranar Port (Tamil Nadu), and Paradip Port (Odisha) as Green Hydrogen Hubs under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, aimed at making India a global centre for green hydrogen production and exports, reports Renewables Now.
The recognition, granted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), follows revised guidelines introduced in June 2025 for establishing Hydrogen Valley Innovation Clusters (HVIC) and Green Hydrogen Hubs. Under the updated scheme, MNRE can designate locations as Green Hydrogen Hubs without providing direct financial assistance, enabling projects in these port zones to access benefits under relevant central and state government schemes, including those linked to the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
Speaking last week, Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the government is building a sustainable ecosystem to guide India towards net zero emissions by 2070. “Ports are key nodes in this transition. As Green Hydrogen Hubs, our ports will serve as catalysts for clean energy innovation. Leveraging India’s strategic positions along the eastern and western trade routes, our ports will not only empower the country but also promote sustainable logistics across the region,” the minister said.
