Two international electric vehicle makers, Tesla and VinFast, have officially entered the Indian market with their first four-wheel electric cars, starting with limited availability, according to EVreporter.
According to recent sales data, U.S.-based Tesla sold 61 vehicles in September 2025. The majority of these sales, 41 units, were in Mumbai. Other sales were recorded in Delhi (11), Pune (5), with one vehicle sold each in Thane, Amravati, Mira Bhayandar, and Gurugram.
These initial Tesla vehicles are being imported as fully-built units and are currently available only in a few select cities.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese automaker VinFast sold 21 units during the same period. Most of these, 15 units, were sold in the state of Telangana. Four units were sold in Surat, and one unit each was sold in Delhi and Jaipur.
This marks the beginning of a new chapter for electric mobility in India, as global brands establish their initial presence in the market.
