New Delhi: L&T Energy, Waaree Clean Energy, Reliance Green Hydrogen, and AM Green are among ten companies identified as the lowest bidders for government incentives aimed at boosting green hydrogen production, reported ET Auto.
Oriana Power made the lowest bid, committing to a production capacity of 10,000 tonnes per year while requesting an average incentive of just INR 0.01 per kilogram for three years, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The financial bids were submitted under the second phase of the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) scheme. The Solar Energy Corporation of India, the agency managing the tender, is yet to issue letters of award to the winning bidders, the sources said.
The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy had sought proposals to establish 450,000 tonnes of green hydrogen production capacity annually, backed by incentives worth INR 5,400 crore. In response, 14 companies submitted bids for a combined capacity of 622,500 tonnes, surpassing the government’s offer.
Most of the ten companies that secured incentives were granted the full capacity they had bid for. Among the winners were Suryadeep KA1, GH2 Solar, and Green Infra Renewable. Attempts to reach some of these companies for comment were unsuccessful.
The incentive selection process followed a bucket-filling method, starting with the bidder requiring the lowest incentive and continuing until the entire offered capacity was allocated. The cap for incentives is set at INR 50 per kilogram in the first year, INR 40 in the second, and INR 30 in the third.
The SIGHT scheme is part of India’s National Green Hydrogen Mission, which was launched in January 2023 with a budget of INR 17,490 crore to support green hydrogen and electrolyzer technologies.
Of the total capacity on offer, 410,000 tonnes per year will be produced through technology-agnostic methods, while the remaining portion will utilize biomass-based pathways.
This development marks a significant step in India’s push toward renewable energy and green hydrogen production, aligning with its commitment to sustainable energy transitions.
