Telangana: Villagers protest against proposed ethanol factory

Telangana: Around 2,000 villagers, predominantly women, from Dilawarpur mandal protested on Friday against the planned ethanol factory in Nirmal district, urging the government to halt its construction. They expressed concerns that the factory would pollute their agricultural land and groundwater, pose threats to local wildlife, and contaminate the Godavari River. The protesters, hailing from Dilawarpur and Gundampalli, gathered under the banner of ‘Praja Galam’ and vowed to continue their agitation until the government rescinds permission for the factory.

Among those participating were Telangana Jana Samiti MLC Prof. M. Kodandaram, TPJAC member Kanneganti Ravi, Progressive Organisation for Women’s president V. Sandhya, and local farmers. Prof. Kodandaram indicated that he would bring the matter to the state government’s attention and seek a resolution. Sandhya criticized the government for prioritizing the ethanol factory over the establishment of educational institutions and medical colleges. Kanneganti Ravi highlighted the potential harm the factory could inflict on the local population and its negative impact on agriculture. Former sarpanch Veeresh, Ethanol Factory Vyathireka committee member Sappala Ravi, and Left leaders Katla Rajanna and Nandi Ramaiah were also present at the gathering.
