Hyderabad: Telangana has secured major investments totaling ₹29,000 crore in the renewable energy sector from Ecoren Energy India Private Ltd and GPSR Arya Pvt Ltd, under the state’s newly introduced Telangana Clean and Green Energy Policy 2025, reports The Times of India.
Ecoren Energy will invest ₹27,000 crore to set up a series of wind and solar power projects across the state. These initiatives are projected to reduce about 400 million tonnes of carbon emissions over the next 25 years. The company estimates that its operations will generate around 16,200 local jobs and contribute nearly ₹1,600 crore in State Goods and Services Tax (SGST).
The projects include a 3,279 MW wind-solar hybrid power facility spread across Sangareddy and Narayanpet districts, a 1,650 MW floating solar power project across seven locations in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, and a 650 MW ground-mounted solar project in Jogulamba Gadwal district.
GPSR Arya, on the other hand, is investing ₹2,000 crore to set up 15 compressed biogas (CBG) plants, each with a capacity of 15 tonnes per day. These will be developed through joint ventures with public sector oil companies like Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL).
Under the joint venture with IOC, biogas plants will be established in Medak, Sangareddy, and Siddipet. The fuel from these plants will be supplied to Torrent Gas for city gas distribution (CGD). IOC will oversee CGD operations in Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Rajanna Sircilla, and Jagtial, while Megha Gas will manage CGD in Khammam, Suryapet, Nalgonda, Yadadri, Wanaparthy, and Mahabubnagar.
In partnership with BPCL, GPSR Arya will also supply biogas to Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd for use in Kamareddy and Nizamabad. These plants will primarily use agricultural waste and napier grass, with an annual estimated use of 7.5 lakh metric tonnes of surplus paddy straw. The initiative is expected to create around 3,000 direct jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 17.24 lakh metric tonnes annually.
The companies signed formal agreements with the Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd (TGREDCO) in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka.
