The Telangana Transport Department, under its electric vehicle (EV) policy, has granted complete exemptions on taxes and related charges amounting to Rs 369.27 crore. A report card released by the office of Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar highlights that between November 16, 2024, and June 30, 2025, a total of 49,633 electric vehicles were registered and all of them benefited from these exemptions, reported The Hindu.
Of the total EVs sold, 37,305 were two-wheelers, while 9,085 were non-transport four-wheelers. Additionally, 1,153 were electric taxis, 1,245 were autorickshaws, and 607 were light electric three-wheeler goods carriers.
To enhance public transport services within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits, the department has approved the operation of 20,000 electric three-wheeler autos, 10,000 three-wheelers powered by CNG and LPG, and an additional 25,000 retrofitted electric three-wheeler autos.
