Solapur Bioenergy Systems begins generation and dispatch of Compressed Biogas from IOCL Gorakhpur CBG plant

Solapur Bioenergy Systems Limited (SBESL), a subsidiary of Organic Recycling Systems Ltd. (ORSL), has commenced the generation and dispatch of Compressed Biogas (CBG) from the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (IOCL) Compressed Biogas Plant located in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. This significant achievement reinforces India’s green energy momentum and directly supports the Government of India’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) initiative.

The Gorakhpur plant processes agricultural residues such as paddy straw, cow dung, and other organic waste to generate high-purity biogas. ORSL said the project will help curb stubble burning, cut greenhouse gas emissions, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and create jobs in rural feedstock collection and logistics.

Speaking on the Commencement, Sarang Bhand, Promoter and MD, stated that: “The successful taking over of operation of the Gorakhpur CBG plant stands as a powerful testament to ORSL’s deep-rooted expertise in delivering efficient, sustainable, and community-centric waste-toenergy solutions. This project reflects our unwavering commitment to transforming agricultural waste into clean, high-value energy while actively supporting rural livelihoods and driving environmental stewardship. By combining cutting-edge technology with grassroots partnerships, we are not only reducing carbon emissions but also delivering far-reaching impact. This includes reducing fossil fuel imports, curbing stubble burning, improving air quality, and generating meaningful rural employment in biomass collection, logistics, and operations. It also strengthens the circular economy and promotes sustainable agricultural practices. Through initiatives like this, we are building a resilient, low-carbon energy ecosystem that benefits both the environment and the economy, while reinforcing India’s path
toward energy independence.”

The initiative supports the government’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) programme, which promotes CBG as a cleaner fuel alternative.

Founded in 2008, ORSL is known for its work in waste valorisation and operates India’s first municipal solid waste processing plant using patented anaerobic biomethanation technology. With the Gorakhpur facility now operational, the company has added another large-scale renewable energy project to its portfolio in the bio-CNG and organic waste treatment space.
