‘Small explosion’ at ethanol plant in Shenandoah

Two employees were injured on Thursday following a “minor explosion” at an ethanol plant in Iowa, as reported by authorities, reported Ketv.com.

At around 5:36 p.m., the Shenandoah Fire Department and Shenandoah Ambulance Service were dispatched to the Green Plains Ethanol Plant in response to a potential chemical exposure incident.

Upon arrival, responders determined that two employees had sustained burns while working on a corn mash pump, which had experienced an explosion, according to Shenandoah Fire officials.

The injured employees received initial treatment at Shenandoah Medical Center before being transferred to a facility for further medical care, authorities stated.

Green Plains confirmed in a statement that the injuries occurred during routine equipment maintenance.

Shenandoah Fire assured the public that no chemicals were released into the environment and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
