Renewables to lead power capacity expansion, solar and wind at the forefront: Centrum Report

Renewable energy is expected to account for the majority of new power capacity in the coming years, with solar and wind projects driving most of the growth, according to a report by Centrum Institutional Researcha, ANI reported.

The report said India’s power sector is witnessing a clear shift toward cleaner energy sources, as rising demand and policy support push investments into renewables. Solar power is projected to remain the largest contributor to new capacity additions, supported by falling costs and large-scale project development.

Wind energy is also expected to see steady, particularly in states with favourable conditions, as new projects and haybrid models gain traction.

Centrum noted that government initiatives and targets aimed at expanding renewable capacity are encouraging both public and private sector participation. This is expected to accelerate the transition away from conventional sources such as coal.

The report added that hybrid projects combining solar and wind, along with energy storage solutions, are likely to play an increasing role in ensuring reliable power supply.

With electricity demand continuing to rise, renewables are set to form the backbone of future capacity expansion, helping the country move toward its clean energy goals while meeting growing consumption needs.
