Punjab raises sugarcane price to Rs 416 per quintal

In a move aimed at supporting farmers, the Punjab government has announced an increase of Rs. 15 per quintal in the procurement price of sugarcane (Sugarcane SAP), reported ChiniMandi.

Under the revised rates, sugarcane in Punjab will now be purchased at Rs. 416 per quintal, up from Rs. 401 last year.

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann made the announcement during the inauguration of a new sugar mill in Dinanagar. In comparison, the Haryana government recently set its sugarcane price at Rs. 415 per quintal.

By setting Punjab’s rate at Rs. 416, just Rs. 1 above Haryana’s, the state has underscored its commitment to providing better support to its farmers.

Chief Minister Mann stated that Punjab’s fixed rate is currently the highest in the country. The announcement is being seen as a positive development for farmers ahead of the sugarcane crushing season.

Officials expect that the price increase will boost the income of sugarcane growers and further promote sugarcane cultivation in the state.
