Punjab Agricultural University inks three pacts for its model biogas plant

The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) has entered into three agreements with Saroja Sustainable Solutions Private Limited, New Delhi, to commercialize its technologies: a fixed dome-type biogas plant (family size) ranging from 1m3/day to 25m3/day capacity, a paddy straw based biogas plant made of mild steel sheet (above ground), and a modified Janta model biogas plant with capacities from 25m3/day to 500m3/day, reported Tribune India.

Dr AS Dhatt, PAU’s Director of Research, and Roshan Shankar, Founder and CEO of Saroja Sustainable Solutions, signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoAs) on behalf of their respective organizations. Under the terms, PAU grants non-exclusive rights to the firm for manufacturing these technologies within the country for a period of five years.

Dr Gursahib Singh Manes, Additional Director of Research (Agricultural Engineering), commended Dr Sarbjit Singh Sooch, Principal Scientist from the Department of Renewable Energy Engineering, for successfully commercializing the technology.

Explaining the technology, Dr Sooch highlighted that the plant’s construction is straightforward and consists of an all-brick masonry structure suitable for all regions of India. He noted that the plant costs 60-70% less than conventional floating drum biogas plants, with significantly lower maintenance requirements.

Dr Khushdeep Dharni, Associate Director of PAU’s Technology Marketing and IPR Cell, emphasized that PAU’s technologies promote sustainability and positively impact the lives of citizens through commercialization initiatives.
