Public Sector OMCs procure 4.91 crore litres of biodiesel for diesel blending in June 2024

During the monthly summary meeting of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas for June 2024, significant developments in biodiesel and ethanol blending were highlighted.

During June 2024, Public Sector OMCs have procured 4.91 crore litres biodiesel for blending with diesel. Thus, the public sector OMCs have procured 13.18 crore litres of biodiesel for blending with diesel during financial year 2024-25.

Recently, Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Monday informed the Parliament that at present, there is no plan to mandate the blending of ethanol with diesel.

He apprised the Upper House that oil marketing companies have tested up to 7 per cent of ethanol in diesel in collaboration with the Automotive Research Association of India and select auto companies.

The government is ambitious of attaining 20 per cent ethanol-blended petrol by 2024-25 and 30 per cent by 2029-30. The government has advanced the target of E20 fuel from 2030 to 2025.

E20 blending in petrol was introduced by the Centre to reduce the country’s oil import cost, energy security, lower carbon emissions and better air quality.

During June 2024, Public Sector OMCS have procured 60.91 crore litres ethanol and achieved blending of approx 15.85 %. Further, during the Ethanol Supply Year 2023-24 (1st November to 31st October), the Public Sector OMCs have procured 401 crore litres ethanol and achieved blending of approx 13% upto 30th June.
