Chandigarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to flag off the proposed hydrogen-powered train service from Jind, Haryana, on July 17, a move that will mark a major milestone in India’s clean energy and green transport journey, BJP national secretary Om Prakash Dhankar said on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference in Jhajjar, Dhankar said the launch would be a historic event for both Haryana and the country, adding that it would reflect the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” while giving fresh momentum to India’s green energy mission, The Tribune reported.
He said the proposed hydrogen-powered train represents a significant step towards clean energy, environment-friendly transportation and advanced technology.
According to Dhankar, India is making rapid progress in hydrogen-based rail technology, and the indigenously developed hydrogen train, with a capacity of around 1,200 horsepower, showcases the country’s growing capabilities in innovation and self-reliance.
He said the project reflects the vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” and comes at a time when countries around the world are focusing on reducing carbon emissions and adopting cleaner sources of energy.
Dhankar added that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has made significant progress in green hydrogen, renewable energy and sustainable transport.
