Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday and extended a formal invitation for the inauguration of the year-long birth centenary celebrations of music legend and Bharat Ratna awardee, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika.
During their 20-minute meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi, the Chief Minister also invited him to inaugurate the Assam Bio-Ethanol Plant and to lay the foundation stones for two major infrastructure projects—the Rs 5,700 crore Guwahati Ring Road and the Darrang Medical College and Hospital.
Prime Minister Modi has accepted the invitations and will be attending these events as Chief Guest on September 8. Chief Minister Sarma expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for agreeing to be a part of these significant occasions.
Sharing the update on social media platform X, Sarma wrote, “It was my privilege to meet Hon’ble Prime Minister @narendramodi ji in New Delhi today. I had the honour of inviting him to Assam as the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony of the year-long celebration of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s birth centenary.”
He further noted, “I also took the opportunity to request his presence for the inauguration of the Assam Bio-Ethanol Plant, which will produce 49,000 tonnes of ethanol annually using 300,000 tonnes of bamboo as raw material.”
The Chief Minister added that he requested the Prime Minister to lay the foundation stones for the Guwahati Ring Road and the Darrang Medical College and Hospital. “The Prime Minister has agreed to grace these important occasions on 8th September 2025,” his post read.
Meanwhile, addressing the upcoming Panchayat elections in Assam, CM Sarma expressed strong confidence in the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) prospects.
He highlighted that the NDA has already secured a significant number of seats unopposed—37 Zila Parishad seats (35 BJP and 2 AGP) and 288 Anchalik Panchayat seats (259 BJP and 29 AGP).
“This is a massive and unprecedented mandate in Assam’s political history,” Sarma wrote on X. “It reflects the immense trust and overwhelming love that the people of Assam have for the NDA and for our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.”
He added that the NDA is confident of a sweeping victory once all results are in.
