Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the G7 Outreach Session on the theme “Energy Security: Diversification, Technology and Infrastructure to Ensure Access and Affordability in a Changing World”, where he presented India’s unique, human-centric approach to technology and energy security. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) shared details of his remarks in a statement on Wednesday.
During his address, Prime Minister Modi thanked Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney for the invitation and extended his congratulations to the G7 nations on completing 50 years of their journey. He pointed out that energy security is one of the most pressing challenges future generations will face.
PM Modi outlined India’s strategy towards energy security, anchored on the four core principles of Availability, Accessibility, Affordability, and Acceptability—commonly referred to as the 4As. These pillars, he said, reflect India’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth.
Despite being the fastest-growing major economy, India has already met its targets under the Paris Climate Agreement ahead of schedule, the Prime Minister noted, reinforcing the country’s dedication to climate action and energy transition.
He also addressed the growing influence of emerging technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI), and their implications for the energy sector. While acknowledging AI’s potential to drive innovation and improve efficiency, he cautioned that its development and usage are highly energy-intensive. PM Modi called for strategic planning to ensure that AI evolves in a sustainable, environmentally responsible manner.
Reiterating India’s human-centric vision for technological advancement, he emphasised that technology should ultimately improve the lives of ordinary people. He also highlighted the need for robust global governance mechanisms around AI to address related concerns while fostering innovation.
In this context, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of building secure and resilient supply chains for critical minerals—key components for emerging technologies. He further stated that India’s wealth of high-quality, diverse data can play a vital role in developing responsible AI systems.
Underscoring the broader message of his speech, PM Modi said that in a world increasingly driven by technology, international cooperation is essential for building a sustainable future. This, he stressed, must be guided by a vision that places both people and the planet at the heart of progress.
In support of this vision, he showcased India’s leadership in global sustainability efforts, citing initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuels Alliance, Mission LiFE, and the One Sun, One World, One Grid initiative. He urged the international community to come together and reinforce these collective efforts for a greener and more resilient future.
