Peninsula opens new biofuel storage and blending facility at Rotterdam’s Chane terminal

Marine fuel supplier Peninsula on Monday (17 November) announced the expansion of its infrastructure at the Port of Rotterdam with the launch of a new storage and blending facility at Chane Terminal, reports Manifold Times.

The first phase of the project is now operational, featuring nine new tanks dedicated to biofuel storage and blending, with a combined capacity of 30,000 cubic metres. The facility is ISCC certified and Nea registered, ensuring compliance and full traceability in all operations.

The upgraded infrastructure includes three jetties and seven berths for barges up to 135 metres, along with a jetty for seagoing vessels. This setup is designed to support efficient logistics and inter-terminal transfers with major oil companies.

A second phase, scheduled for January 2026, will add eight more tanks, increasing total capacity to 110,000 cubic metres.

According to the company, the expansion strengthens Peninsula’s operational capabilities in the ARA region and supports its role in Europe’s energy transition.

The new facility enables blending of all biofuel grades (HSFO/VLSFO) from B5 to B100, with complete control over blending ratios and product quality. This flexibility allows Peninsula to customise blends according to customer needs.

Peninsula said the Chane Terminal will be central to advancing its biofuel strategy, supporting decarbonisation efforts and offering added value to customers across Europe.

Thomas Van Hoeteghem, Regional Supply Manager for North-West Europe, said the expansion enhances Peninsula’s presence in Rotterdam, the continent’s largest port. He said the facility boosts operational strength and reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable marine energy. He added that the investment in advanced infrastructure and flexible blending options will help customers meet their decarbonisation targets with greater assurance.
