Neste and United Airlines have extended their partnership to provide sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) at three additional major U.S. airports. Under the new agreement, United becomes the first commercial airline to use SAF for flights departing from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in New Jersey, and Dulles International Airport (IAD) in Washington D.C.
As part of the deal, Neste will supply neat Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel™ to United, which will then be blended with conventional jet fuel to meet standard jet fuel specifications.
SAF deliveries to George Bush Airport began in July 2025 and are scheduled to continue through October 2025. Deliveries to Newark and Dulles airports started in September 2025 and will run until the end of the year. The fuel is transported to each airport using existing pipeline infrastructure from Neste’s SAF terminal facilities in Houston.
“Introducing sustainable aviation fuel for the first time at our hubs in Houston, Newark, and Dulles is another significant milestone in United’s sustainability journey,” said United Chief Sustainability Officer Lauren Riley. “While United remains the leading SAF user in the U.S., having used over 4,300 metric tons (13 million gallons) last year, we understand that expanding the SAF market requires support from state and federal governments. We will continue collaborating with partners like Neste to encourage policymakers to implement market incentives that promote lower-carbon energy.”
Carl Nyberg, Senior Vice President of Commercial, Renewable Products at Neste, added: “We are excited to help United Airlines expand SAF use to new U.S. markets. It is vital that more states adopt proven incentive policies to accelerate SAF production and support the aviation industry in achieving its ambitious net-zero carbon goal by 2050. We remain committed to helping our customers reduce emissions by scaling SAF production and supply.”
This agreement builds on the long-standing collaboration between Neste and United. Neste has supplied SAF to United at Chicago O’Hare International Airport since August 2024, following the introduction of a SAF purchase credit in Illinois, making United the first airline to use SAF at that airport. Additionally, Neste MY Sustainable Aviation Fuel has been used by United at San Francisco International Airport, supported by California’s Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS).
