A tragic accident was reported on Friday at a solar panel manufacturing unit in Nagpur after a water tank collapsed, killing six workers from Bihar.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the incident and extended condolences to the families of the victims. He assured them of full support from the state government.
Calling the incident at the company located in Butibori MIDC “extremely tragic,” the Chief Minister said nine workers were injured and are currently undergoing treatment. He added that the state government would provide ₹5 lakh as financial assistance to the families of each deceased worker. The company concerned has also announced compensation of ₹30 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹10 lakh for the injured, in addition to covering their medical expenses.
Local administration and police teams rushed to the spot and began relief and rescue operations. The bodies of the deceased have been sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination, and an investigation has been initiated to assess safety conditions at the factory.
Nagpur Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar said the accident occurred while workers were engaged in a construction project near a water tank at the Awada company, which manufactures solar panels. The tank collapsed, trapping the workers underneath. Of the injured, three sustained serious injuries.
Officials confirmed that the injured workers are being treated at various private hospitals. Police and fire brigade personnel reached the site soon after being alerted, and further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
