MVV Enamic to build biomass steam plant for oat processor Rubinmuehle in Germany

MVV Enamic, a subsidiary of Germany’s MVV Energie AG, is set to build a new biomass plant to supply steam to Rubinmuehle, a local oat processing company. The facility will be located at Rubinmuehle’s site in Lahr, southwestern Germany, reports Renewables Now.

The plant will generate up to five tonnes of steam per hour and will run primarily on oat husks, a byproduct of the milling process. A gas-powered backup boiler will also be installed to ensure continuous operation. The new system is expected to replace the company’s existing wood-fired heating setup.

According to MVV, the biomass plant will help reduce carbon dioxide emissions by around 4,800 tonnes per year and will meet a significant portion of Rubinmuehle’s future steam requirements.

Under a long-term energy supply agreement, MVV Enamic will handle the full scope of the project—including planning, construction, financing, and future operations. The plant is scheduled to be operational by April 2027.

The project is receiving financial support from Germany’s energy efficiency in industry programme (EEW), which will cover 20% of the total cost.
