Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation (MC) on Tuesday approved several key proposals during its monthly general house meeting, including the establishment of a compressed biogas (CBG) plant.
As a step towards sustainable waste management, the MC approved Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) as the implementing agency for the city’s first compressed biogas (CBG) plant. The project will process segregated organic municipal solid waste under the Government of India’s SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) scheme, which directs oil marketing companies to develop CBG plants nationwide.
A 15-year concession agreement will be signed between MC Chandigarh and IOCL, with the option of an extension through mutual consent. Officials said the plant will help promote clean energy, ensure scientific waste disposal, and strengthen environmental conservation efforts in the city.
