Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, the country’s largest carmaker, will launch its first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara SUV, on December 2, 2025. The launch marks an important step for the company as it enters the electric vehicle market and supports India’s move toward cleaner transport, reports EV Mechanica.
The e-Vitara will be made on Maruti Suzuki’s new Heartect-e platform, which has been developed especially for electric vehicles. The company said the platform is designed to give better performance, safety, and efficiency while being suitable for Indian roads.
Two Battery Options and Long Range
The e-Vitara will be available with two battery options — 49 kWh and 61 kWh — to suit different needs. The larger battery version is expected to run for more than 500 km on a single charge, helping reduce worries about driving distance.
The SUV will be built at Maruti Suzuki’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, which also sends electric vehicles to other countries. The model is already being exported to some European markets, while the version made for India will include local parts and features to keep prices affordable.
Price and Competition
The e-Vitara is expected to be priced from around ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base model. It will compete with the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra XUV400. With its long driving range, solid build quality, and Maruti Suzuki’s wide service network, the e-Vitara is one of the most awaited new cars of the year.
Part of Maruti Suzuki’s Electric Plan
The launch of the e-Vitara is part of Maruti Suzuki’s larger plan to offer more electric vehicles and help India reach its clean energy goals. The company also plans to increase local production of electric vehicle parts and batteries to reduce import costs and make electric vehicles more affordable for Indian buyers.
Experts believe that Maruti Suzuki’s entry into the electric vehicle market will encourage more people to buy electric cars, as the company has a strong reputation, wide reach, and large production capacity. The e-Vitara is expected to set new standards for performance, comfort, and reliability in the mid-size electric SUV segment.
What’s Next
Before the official launch, Maruti Suzuki is expected to share full details about the e-Vitara’s features, variants, and booking dates. The company will also provide information about charging options, including fast and home charging systems, closer to the launch date.
With the e-Vitara, Maruti Suzuki aims to take a major step toward electric mobility while continuing its promise of offering affordable, dependable, and high-quality cars for Indian customers.
