Dubai: In a significant move towards environmentally friendly practices, LuLu Group, the retail giant headquartered in Abu Dhabi, has announced that its delivery vehicles are now running on biodiesel. This innovative fuel is created from used cooking oil collected directly from the company’s many stores across the United Arab Emirates, reports Gulf News.
This new green effort is the result of a partnership with Neutral Fuels, a clean energy company based in the UAE. Waste cooking oil, which is a natural leftover from LuLu’s daily food preparation, is being turned into biodiesel that produces fewer harmful emissions.
This renewable fuel is now powering a growing number of LuLu’s delivery trucks, helping the group reduce its environmental impact and strengthen its commitment to using resources in a continuous loop.
“This shows that everyday, practical actions can lead to clear environmental benefits without affecting how well we operate or serve our customers,” the group stated in a press release.
Compared to regular diesel, biodiesel significantly cuts down on gases that trap heat in the atmosphere. LuLu’s environmentally conscious decision aligns with the UAE’s bigger goals for sustainability and climate action, including reaching net-zero emissions by 2050.
Further boosting its environmentally friendly transportation efforts, LuLu uses advanced “green chiller” vehicles to carry perishable items like fresh produce and meat. These modern vehicles are designed to lower emissions while still maintaining high standards for food safety.
Together, these initiatives are part of the group’s wider strategy focusing on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) goals, all aimed at reducing its impact on the planet.
