KBR to assist development of 25GW of green hydrogen and 17GW of renewable energy planned under Kuwait’s national strategy

KBR will aid in the development of 25GW of green hydrogen and 17GW of renewable energy as part of Kuwait’s national strategy.

Under an Advisory Consulting Contract with Kuwait Oil Company, KBR will contribute to the nation’s green hydrogen and renewables “masterplan,” fostering the growth of Kuwait’s energy economy.

The US-based firm will offer consulting services to devise a phased approach for deploying wind and solar power, along with energy storage capabilities. This renewable power capacity will be integrated with green hydrogen production for industrial use and export.

H2 View reports that the work is expected to be completed over the next 18 months. KBR will conduct market analysis, techno-commercial feasibility studies, and provide training for Kuwaiti nationals.

“We are excited to participate in this significant national strategy in Kuwait and to expand our presence in the country,” said Jay Ibrahim, KBR President of Sustainable Technology Solutions.

“This achievement underscores our advisory expertise in major energy transition investments at a national level, built on decades of successful project delivery and technology implementation in the GCC region.”

He also noted that the contract aligns with KBR’s “strategic commitment” to sustainability and energy transition in Kuwait.

Earlier this year, Kuwait commissioned its roadmap for green hydrogen, and KBR was first approached by Kuwait Oil Company in July to develop the 25GW green hydrogen strategy.
