Hyderabad: Vijayawada-based renewable energy company Juno Joule Green Energy Pvt Ltd has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with German clean energy firm Select Energy GmbH to jointly develop a large-scale green hydrogen and ammonia production facility in Andhra Pradesh. The project, valued at approximately US$1.3 billion (around ₹10,000 crore), will be set up near Mulapeta port on India’s east coast and is expected to significantly boost the country’s renewable energy exports, reports The Times of India.
The facility will be developed in three phases and aims to produce about 180,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2029. This hydrogen will then be converted into nearly one million tonnes of green ammonia each year, primarily for export. Construction is slated to begin in 2026. The project is being designed to meet stringent European Union standards for Renewable Fuels of Non-Biological Origin (RFNBO), ensuring its suitability for international markets.
Once operational, the project is expected to generate between 5,000 and 6,000 direct and indirect jobs across various sectors including construction, operations, logistics, and support services. In addition to job creation, the initiative promises to facilitate the transfer of advanced technology, enhance the skills of the local workforce, and establish Andhra Pradesh and Telangana as key players in the global clean energy sector.
To support its operations, the facility will include a state-of-the-art desalination plant to provide high-purity water sourced sustainably from seawater. Electrolysers powered by a mix of solar, wind, and hydropower will be used to produce green hydrogen. The plant will also feature port-connected pipeline infrastructure to streamline large-scale exports.
The project will integrate advanced technologies from international leaders like Thyssenkrupp Nucera and KBR Inc. It will also be supported by logistics partnerships in Germany and the Netherlands, strengthening its position in global supply chains.
The MoU was signed by Nagasharath Rayapati, CEO of Juno Joule Green Energy, and Felix Danger, Managing Director of Select New Energies GmbH, during the World Hydrogen Summit 2025 held in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The partnership marks a major step forward in India’s efforts to lead in clean energy innovation and export.
