John Deere approves B30 biodiesel use in Michigan, boosting local renewable fuel use

The Michigan Advanced Biofuels Coalition (MiABC) has welcomed John Deere’s decision to allow the use of B30 biodiesel in all its Tier 4 Power Systems engines, a step up from the previous B20 approval. The move also applies to Tier 4 engines in John Deere construction equipment, reports Biofuels International.

John Deere has a long history of supporting renewable fuels, having previously approved RD100 renewable diesel in Tier 4 engines and blends up to B100 for Tier 3 and Tier 2 engines.

“Allowing B30 biodiesel fuel in John Deere equipment is excellent news for Michigan farmers and rural communities, especially with the fall harvest approaching,” said Hanna Campbell, managing director of MiABC and market development director for the Michigan Soybean Committee. “Fueling tractors and combines with B30 improves engine performance and reduces carbon emissions, creating a cleaner, healthier environment.”

Mark Senk, a farmer from Owosso and president of the Michigan Soybean Committee, added, “Biodiesel is an ideal fuel choice because it is made from crops grown right here on our farms. We are excited to see higher blends like B30 approved for agricultural equipment and look forward to using them during harvest this fall.”

The new approval is expected to increase the adoption of renewable fuels in Michigan agriculture and support local soybean and other crop industries, reinforcing the state’s commitment to cleaner energy in farming.
