The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has launched a new weekly statistical update to track India’s progress in renewable energy, starting with a powerful snapshot of the country’s clean energy achievements over the past decade, reports Solarquarter.
According to the latest data, India has seen a fivefold increase in its solar, wind, and bio-energy capacities since 2014—a development credited to strong government policies and growing use of green technologies across the country.
Key highlights from the report include:
Solar power capacity has jumped from 2,821 MW in 2014 to 1,10,834 MW by May 2025.
Wind energy capacity rose from 21,042 MW to 51,292 MW in the same period.
Bio-energy capacity grew from 8,179 MW to 11,594 MW.
The MNRE attributed this surge to the success of central government schemes, rising rooftop solar installations, and the development of new wind corridors. The ministry said the figures reflect India’s strong and ongoing commitment to a clean energy transition.
Calling the progress “a story of ambition backed by action,” the ministry said the new weekly series will provide visual, concise updates to showcase India’s renewable energy journey, offering the public a clear view of the country’s evolving energy future.
