In a significant move towards sustainability, Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) is set to launch its green hydrogen plant in Panipat, Haryana, within the next two years. Arvinder Singh Sahney, Chairman of IOC, shared the latest update during an exclusive interview with ANI at the World Economic Forum 2025 in Davos, Switzerland. He revealed that the plant, with a production capacity of 10,000 tons per year, has made considerable progress.
“The green hydrogen plant is now operational. We’ve received excellent bids for it, and the tenders are currently under evaluation. We expect to award the contract within the next month, and within two years, the 10,000 tons per year green hydrogen plant in Panipat will be up and running,” Sahney said.
This plant is part of IOC’s commitment to advancing India’s green energy goals, contributing to the nation’s push for a sustainable and carbon-neutral future.
Sahney also highlighted IOC’s expansion efforts in the city gas distribution (CGD) sector. “We have a significant presence in the CGD business and are working hard to expand infrastructure. We aim to provide more connections to households, increase the number of CNG stations, and expand the supply of piped natural gas,” he explained.
While discussing future acquisitions, Sahney stated that IOC has no immediate acquisition plans but remains focused on strengthening its existing operations.
With the green hydrogen project and its growing CGD business, Indian Oil is playing a key role in India’s transition to a cleaner energy future.
On the topic of U.S. sanctions on Russia and potential actions under the new Trump administration, Sahney expressed that these would have a “limited effect” on India. “It’s not a major challenge for us as the impact is minimal. We are complying with all sanctions,” Sahney remarked, adding that India has a diversified energy supply to meet its needs.
